A gateway to the Library of Congress’s vast resources of digitized American historical materials, with over 9 million items documenting U.S. history and culture. American Memory is organized into more than 100 thematic collections based on their original format, their subject matter, or who first created, assembled, or donated them to the Library.

Creative Commons’ “CC Search” project is the first release of an "open online search and re-use tool that will allow high-quality content (specifically photographs) from the commons to surface in a more seamless and accessible way.... This is the new platform for accessing recent Census Bureau data. FYI, the Census Bureau stopped releasing new data in American FactFinder (AFF) at the end of June 2019 and transitioned to data.census.gov for data releases formerly on AFF.

Find selected digitized materials from the Research Institute's collection that are free to view and download. Materials include over 2.5 million digital images of rare and public domain books, photographs, prints, manuscripts, sketchbooks, and archives.

Historypin is a digital, user-generated archive of historical photos, videos, audio recordings and personal recollections.

This is one of the world's premier map collections in terms of size, scope, unique holdings, diversity and intensity of use. Established in 1898, holdings include more than 433,000 sheet maps and 20,000 books and atlases published between the 15th and 21st centuries. The collections range from the global to the local scale and support the learning and research needs of a wide variety of users.

The National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS) provides population, housing, agricultural, and economic data, along with GIS-compatible boundary files, for geographic units in the United States from 1790 to the present.

Wikimedia Commons is a media file repository making available public domain and freely-licensed educational media content (images, sound and video clips) to everyone, in their own language. It acts as a common repository for the various projects of the Wikimedia Foundation, but you do not need to belong to one of those projects to use media hosted here.

Established in 2000, Ohio Memory is the collaborative statewide digital library program of the Ohio History Connection and the State Library of Ohio. On this free website, you can explore digital content from over 390 cultural heritage institutions representing all 88 of Ohio’s counties covering a wide range of topics from prehistory to present day.

Steel Valley Voices collects and shares the stories and memories of the Youngstown area’s diverse communities. This digital archive makes letters, documents, photographs, and other materials available to anyone with an interest in Mahoning Valley history and culture. Steel Valley Voices is a collaboration among the Center for Applied History, University Archives of Maag Library, the Center for Working Class Studies, the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor and the History Department at Youngstown State University. Steel Valley Voices was developed by former YSU Professor and Co-Director of the Center for Working Class Studies, Dr. Sherry Linkon.

Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor (an Ohio History Connection site) provides a dramatic overview of the impact of the iron and steel industry on Youngstown and other Mahoning Valley communities. Material in this extensive collection relates to iron and steel employees, labor disputes, mill and furnace operations, and more.
