Food Studies

This guide covers resources for researching the history and related culture of food.

About the Barnard Foodways Collection

The Barnard Foodways Collection (BFC) is a multidisciplinary collection that includes materials across diverse formats and genres. It is intended to document all aspects of the study of food, related culture and history, and food science. The primary aim of the collection is to support the multidisciplinary liberal arts curriculum at Barnard College, which includes broad interests, course offerings, and research in global foodways and food history.

In addition to supporting the curriculum, the BFC documents global foodways with a particular focus on the food history and related culture of the Global South and its diasporas, the global influences of colonialism, and materials showcasing the intersection of food and the arts.

To see all materials in the collection you can do a catalog search in CLIO using the term "Barnard Foodways Collection."
