A guide to conducting research in Dance at Barnard College

In the Library

Media materials are available from the Media Collection on the 2nd floor of the Barnard Library in the Milstein Center for Teaching & Learning, and from Butler Media Center, which also has a number of dance related materials, including the Eye on Dance video series.. The Barnard Library also has portable optical disc drives that can be checked out from the circulation desk, and connect to both Macs and PC's via a USB cable.

To locate physical and/or electronic materials, conduct an advanced search in CLIO and limit results to Format: Video

Use Borrow Direct to borrow DVDs or VHS from other research libraries, if Barnard or Columbia don't have an available copy of the work you need.

Archival Media

The NYPL Catalog searches the circulating and non-circulating research collections at the New York Public Library's Library for the Performing Arts at the Lincoln Center, including those at the Jerome Robbins Dance Division and the Theatre on Film and Tape Archive (TOFT).  The TOFT has many archival videos of New York theatre productions that can be viewed at the Library for the Performing Arts by researchers with an appointment.
