Jewish Studies

The Barnard College Program in Jewish Studies is a dual-major program that enables undergraduates to acquire a thorough knowledge of the most important aspects of Jewish culture, civilization, and history in an interdisciplinary setting. The purpose of the program is to help the student identify resources for constructing rigorously detailed and methodological majors.

The main center for academic Jewish Studies on campus, the Institute is a central meeting place for faculty and students from all departments dealing with Jewish Studies. The IIJS also sponsors many lectures and events, and supports the undergraduate minor in Jewish Studies

The Hillel is the main center on campus for Jewish Student Life at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and sponsors many interesting academic events relating to Jewish and Israel Studies in addition to its Jewish programming.

Barnard and Columbia students can access the resources at the nearby library at the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) with a $20 per term library card.
